Abducted Senegalese football player found dead in Ghana

A young football player, Sheikh Toure, who played for the Senegalese club Esprit Foot Yeumbeul, was found dead in Ghana. This was announced on October 18 by the press service of the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of Senegal.

"The Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad has received information <...> about the death of Mr. Sheikh Toure, which occurred on Friday, October 17, 2025, in the city of Kumasi (Republic of Ghana)," a statement on the social network X (former. Twitter).

According to preliminary data, the young football player was deceived and abducted by a group of extortionists who convinced him that he was waiting for a screening at a professional football club. Then the young goalkeeper was abducted and used as a means of extortion to obtain a ransom.

Ghanaian authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of death. Representatives of the Senegalese Embassy are also involved in the investigation.

Earlier, on October 16, in Kazakhstan, 19-year-old striker of the Khan Tengri football club Dias Toleu died during the match of the 25th round of the first league of Kazakhstan against Ekibastuz. In the 64th minute of the match, the athlete fell onto the lawn and was carried away on a stretcher. Some time after the match, the press service of the Football Federation of Kazakhstan announced the death of a football player.
