581 road accidents occurred in Russia over the weekend
Over the weekend of October 18-19, 581 traffic accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 92 people were killed and 711 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on October 20 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry.
30 car accidents involving buses were recorded, in which two people were killed and 39 road users, including two children, required medical attention. The reason for 11 bus accidents was traffic violations by their drivers. As a result of 148 accidents involving pedestrians, 23 people were killed, and another 136 were injured in various degrees of severity. There are 22 children among the injured, 11 of whom were injured at pedestrian crossings, and the same number outside the pedestrian crossing. In addition, 68 accidents involving minors were registered on Russian roads over the weekend, as a result of which four children were killed and 75 young road users were injured, including 37 passengers, five cyclists and nine motor transport drivers.
In the Moscow region, a 31-year-old passenger car driver with signs of alcohol intoxication drove into oncoming traffic, where he collided with a crossover moving in the opposite direction. As a result of the accident, a minor passenger who was not even one year old and was in the back seat of a child safety seat of a passenger car was killed. Both the driver and another passenger of the car were hospitalized.
In the Kursk region, a 30-year-old female passenger car driver left the road and overturned. A three-year-old passenger who was also in the back seat in a child restraint died as a result of the accident. The driver and three other minor passengers, a five—year-old and two seven-year-olds, who were also in child restraints, were injured and hospitalized.
A similar accident occurred in the Omsk region, where a 23-year-old driver with signs of alcohol intoxication, driving an unregistered car, drove off the road and overturned. As a result, the 11-year-old passenger, who was in the front passenger seat and was not wearing a seat belt, died. The driver was injured and was sent to the hospital.
In the Novgorod region, a passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place and collided with five other cars at once. As a result of the car accident, the driver of one of the colliding cars and his two passengers, among whom was a baby who was in a child restraint, were killed. The culprit of the accident was hospitalized with injuries.
The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds motorists that the lives and health of their passengers depend entirely on their driving skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding driving behavior.
"Drivers should refrain from risky driving, exceeding the established speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking, entering the oncoming lane even in permitted places and other dangerous maneuvers. We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Earlier, on October 18, it became known that eight people were injured in Karelia after a minibus collided with a truck. They received various injuries and were hospitalized.
