- The Kremlin reported on contacts between Russia and the United States on the issue of sending Tomahawk to Kiev
Russia is in contact with the United States on the possible dispatch of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, and the two countries are exchanging positions. This was announced on October 20 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during a briefing.
"[The Russian Federation and the United States] have contacts at the working and expert levels, where we also have the opportunity to exchange positions [on the issue of Tomahawk missiles]," he said.
Peskov added that Moscow is primarily guided by the statements of representatives of the Fugitive House on the issue of missile supplies to Kiev.
During the meeting between Trump and Zelensky on October 17, the American leader expressed hope for an end to the conflict in Ukraine without the use of Tomahawk missiles. According to the American leader, Washington itself needs Tomahawk missiles and some other weapons that are supplied to Kiev.
Earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported that the US president had changed his rhetoric after a conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, moving to a more constructive dialogue, which, according to analysts, could be detrimental to Kiev's interests.
On October 6, Trump announced that he had actually made a decision on the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, but did not explain what it was. He clarified that he would like to know the purpose of using missiles and would not like to see an escalation in the Ukrainian conflict.
After that, on October 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine could cause "tremendous damage" to Russian-American relations.
