- The results of the International Forum "Russian Energy Week – 2025" have been summed up
The eighth International Forum "Russian Energy Week" was held in Moscow on October 15-17. The central industry event of the year was a vivid demonstration of the prospects for the development of the domestic fuel and energy complex and the potential for international cooperation. The Forum was held with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Energy of Russia and the Government of Moscow. The organizer is the Roscongress Foundation.
The main theme this year is "Creating the energy of the future together." The discussions revolved around several important tracks: the importance of energy for improving people's well-being and quality of life, ensuring technological sovereignty, developing human resources, overcoming geopolitical challenges and building an equal and mutually beneficial partnership.
"Such a dialogue is especially important in the context of intense, fundamental changes in the global market. This is exactly the stage that energy and service companies, suppliers and consumers of energy resources, and even entire states are going through today," Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed at the plenary session, which was the culmination of the REN–2025.
The Head of State outlined key guidelines for the development of global and domestic energy. The main trend is the reconfiguration of global energy relations towards the countries of the Global South against the background of the breakdown of the previous architecture.
The goal is to create a fair, predictable and sustainable energy order in which Russia strengthens its position as a global leader. "It is especially important to effectively manage the extraction and reserves of resources, ensure the technological and environmental development of the industry in order to supply the domestic market, achieve national development goals, and fulfill external agreements. We have always done this, we are doing it and, of course, we will do it – this is one of our absolute priorities," the President said.
The REN-2025 was held in the context of escalating international military and political tensions, which affects not only tactics, but also the strategy for the development of global energy, and clearly shows that the struggle for energy resources has become a struggle for the future. Global geopolitical challenges are radically changing the energy, logistics and financial map of the world.
As last year, the REN events were held at two venues: in the Central Exhibition Hall "Manege", where the main sessions of the business program were held, and in Gostiny Dvor, where an Exhibition of equipment and Technologies for the Fuel and energy Complex was organized.
The business program of the forum was built around the recently adopted Energy Strategy of Russia until 2050. It was formed from several major thematic blocks: oil, gas, and coal; digital technologies; logistics and transport; scientific and technological support; energy security; and the climate agenda. The plenary session with the participation of the President of the Russian Federation confirmed the thesis that the industry, which has maintained its leading position in the face of sanctions pressure, demonstrates resilience, the ability to mobilize technology and forms a new investment cycle based on internal resources and international partnership.
At the opening session on October 15, "Global Energy Markets: Transformation of Relations and Balance of Interests", Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Haitham Al Ghaith, Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, discussed ways to overcome the challenges facing the global energy sector with Alexander Novak (FSEG) Mohamed Hamel and other high-ranking participants. They assessed the current state and prospects of global energy development, analyzed issues of balance of interests, energy dialogue between the West and the East, and changes in the usual supply chains of resources.
A number of sessions were devoted to international cooperation. The issues of energy equity and sustainable development in the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were discussed separately. The annual meeting of the BRICS Energy Research Platform (Energoplatform) focused on its current projects and development prospects in the light of the updated priorities of the roadmap for energy cooperation for the period 2025-2030.
Industry discussions were held at Gostiny Dvor as part of the scientific and practical conference "Territory of Energy Dialogue", where they discussed practical aspects of import substitution in electrical engineering, the development of small-scale generation and Russian innovations for the coal industry. A highlight was the pitch session "Contribution of young scientists to the technological sovereignty of Russia", where the finalists of the "Renewable Energy of the Planet-2025" competition presented their projects.
The largest exhibition of equipment and technologies of the Fuel and energy Complex brought together leading manufacturers, developers and suppliers of technologies from all over Russia and abroad. More than 50 leading companies and organizations presented their breakthrough projects, innovative equipment and advanced developments in the field of electric power, oil and gas, coal industry, nuclear industry, renewable energy sources.
Rosatom State Corporation demonstrated the latest achievements in the field of peaceful atom. Technologies for the development of green energy were presented by ARVE, and technological universities and engineering centers (SIGMA) were introduced to the personnel and scientific potential of the industry.
The winners of the 2025 international media contest "Energy of the Pen" were also awarded, designed to support journalists covering key processes and trends in the global energy sector.
"The Russian Energy Week is a forum that is completely unique in its content and interest. Here we are talking about everything related to energy. In turn, a lot is connected with energy in our country. It's not for me to tell you, you tell everyone about it: the readers who live in our country, the people who read us abroad, the markets, and the analysts. And all decisions are largely made based on the information that you generate. I am very glad that the Pen Energy Award has become an integral part and a good tradition of this forum. I am very glad that there is a lot of interest in this award, and most importantly, the quality of participants and applicants is constantly improving from year to year. We are sincerely happy about this, and we hope that we will continue to preserve this tradition," Dmitry Peskov stressed.
On the final day of the International Forum, more than 3,000 university and school students, as well as specialists from leading companies, presented innovative solutions to government officials and formed a youth energy agenda for the coming year. The REN Youth Day has become an effective platform for popularizing technical professions and attracting promising personnel to the fuel and energy sector.
