Employees of the General Directorate of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption (GUEBiPK) The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, together with law enforcement officers of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, stopped the illegal trafficking of precious metals. A local resident was detained on suspicion of involvement in the crime. This was announced on October 20 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk in her Telegram channel.
According to preliminary information, the suspect purchased gold from unidentified persons and melted it into ingots.
"During the search, a yellow substance weighing about 650 g was found in his car. The conducted research has shown that it contains gold, the value of which can be about 6 million rubles. Several bars with a total weight of more than 1 kg, jewelry and $22 thousand were also seized," Volk said in the publication.
During searches in the man's apartment and non-residential premises, equipped as a jewelry workshop, ingots with a total weight of over 1.5 kg, jewelry and more than 30 million rubles were found. All seized items have been sent for examination. Rosgvardiya officers participated in the arrest operation.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact of origin under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Illegal trafficking in amber, jade or other semiprecious stones, precious metals, precious stones or pearls). The accused was given a preventive measure in the form of house arrest. Operational measures are currently being carried out to identify all those involved in the illegal extraction and sale of natural gold.
Earlier, on October 10, a Russian man intending to travel abroad with an antique pocket watch, the cost of which is about 1 million rubles, was detained at the airport of Mineralnye Vody. The 44-year-old man explained that he was taking the watch to Turkey as a gift for his son's wedding, allegedly unaware of the rules for transporting valuables.
