The Interior Ministry warned Russians about new fraud schemes on dating sites
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia told us what signs can be used to identify scammers on dating sites. This was announced on October 20 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk.
According to Volk, the scam is indicated by the refusal of face-to-face meetings after a long conversation, persistent requests for money transfers and excessively "ideal" questionnaires.
"The signs that can help identify a fraudster are persistent requests for money transfers or assistance as soon as possible, refusal to meet in person during long—term communication, and constant "respectful" excuses," the agency's representative said in an interview with TASS.
She added that scammers often use photos and data from open sources, creating images of "perfect" interlocutors. They also often try to transfer correspondence from the official dating service to messengers or social networks, where it is more difficult to track their actions.
Earlier, on October 18, State Duma deputy Anton Nemkin warned of an increase in the number of fraud cases related to fake job offers and training. According to him, the attackers demand copies of passports and bank cards from the victims under the pretext of paperwork, which leads to the theft of personal data and funds.
