British troops will be given the authority to shoot down drones that pose a threat to military installations. This was reported on October 19 by The Telegraph newspaper.

British Defense Minister John Healey will present an initiative aimed at protecting the country's key military bases from the growing threat from unmanned aerial vehicles. According to the newspaper, the new measures will allow soldiers to act more decisively and use weapons to destroy suspicious drones on the spot.

"We will always do everything necessary to ensure the safety of the British people. New powers are being developed that will allow shooting down unidentified drones over military installations," Healy said.

So far, we are talking only about the protection of military bases, but the authorities do not rule out that similar measures may be extended to civilian facilities, including airports. Earlier in the UK, a series of drone incidents were recorded at air bases used by US forces.

Earlier, on October 11, the Federal Association of German Airlines (BDF) called on the authorities to allow drones to be shot down over airports due to the increased frequency of drone incidents leading to flight delays and cancellations. According to the president of the organization, Peter Gerber, in critical situations, it should be possible to immediately destroy drones in order to avoid endangering passengers and aviation infrastructure.
