Munich airport suspended operations due to UAVs
Munich Airport temporarily suspended operations on October 18 after reports of drones, the Associated Press reported on October 19, citing the German federal police.
According to the agency, the "suspicious sightings" were reported by security guards and airport staff at about 22:00 and again at 23:00 local time, each time for about 30 minutes.
"Three arrivals were redirected, but two of them later arrived in Munich, and one flight was canceled," the police said.
The Federal Police added that no drones or suspicious people were found during the inspection of the airport. The suspension of the airport had a minor impact on air traffic.
Earlier, on October 11, the Federal Association of German Airlines (BDF) called for permission to shoot down drones over airports. She noted that incidents involving unmanned aerial vehicles lead to losses of millions of euros and can cause ticket prices to rise.
