- In France, it was reported that the police had discovered the belongings of the Louvre robbers.
French police have discovered the items used by the intruders during the Louvre heist. This was reported on October 19 by the newspaper Le Parisien, citing a source.
According to the newspaper, two grinders, a gas burner, a container of gasoline, gloves, a walkie-talkie and a blanket were found at the crime scene. In addition, a crown was found nearby, but it is not specified which one. A yellow vest was also found near the museum, which one of the attackers used to impersonate a worker. According to preliminary information, the attackers dropped it while fleeing from the crime scene.
"The police believe that the objects found were used in breaking into shop windows and preparing for an escape," Le Parisien clarifies.
Earlier it was reported that several criminals broke into the museum, broke windows and stole jewelry from the exhibitions "Napoleon" and "French monarchs". According to French Culture Minister Rachida Dati, the robbery took only a few minutes and was carried out by professionals.
As Le Parisien wrote, the attackers acted with high speed and clarity — it took about four to seven minutes. They used equipment to cut metal and open shop windows, after which they fled in a car, leaving behind only fragments of glass and traces of a burner.
Subsequently, the broken crown of Emperor Napoleon III's wife Eugenie, which was part of the exhibition, was found near the museum. At the same time, the criminals did not touch the largest diamond from Napoleon's collection, the Regent, weighing more than 140 carats. According to French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, the investigation is considering the possibility that the robbers were carefully preparing and probably had inside information about the placement of exhibits and the museum's security system.
