US President Donald Trump announced the appointment of Mark Sawaya as special envoy to Iraq. The politician made a corresponding statement on October 19 on the Truth Social social network.
"I am pleased to announce that Mark Sawaya will become special Envoy to the Republic of Iraq," Trump wrote.
He noted that Sawaya's deep understanding of the specifics of relations between Iraq and the United States, as well as his ties in the region, will help "advance the interests of the American people." Trump noted that the new special envoy had played a significant role in his election campaign in Michigan in the past, as he was able to achieve a record number of votes among Muslim residents of the United States.
