One way or another, the Europeans will have to answer for the embezzlement of frozen Russian assets after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. On October 19, American political scientist and journalist Garland Nixon told Izvestia.

"This is another reason why Europeans are terrified of the possibility of an end to the conflict in Ukraine: after all, if it ends, they may have to explain and justify where all this money went. They may be required to return this money to Russia, but they no longer have it. So they are in a very serious economic impasse," he said.

Nixon also added that Europe does not have the money to continue fighting against Russia, which they are waging through the hands of Ukraine.

"Now, ironically, the Europeans look at their own bank accounts, at their financial reserves, and discover that they are empty, that the shelves are empty, that they do not have the money to continue this conflict in which they are all involved against Russia," the political scientist said.

Earlier in the day, the newspaper Politico reported that the European Commission plans to use frozen Russian assets worth €25 billion to issue loans to Ukraine, the funds are in private bank accounts throughout the European Union (EU) bloc.

On October 16, it was reported that the EC expects to expropriate Russia's sovereign assets frozen in the West by the end of 2025. European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius noted that this money will be used for military assistance to Kiev. According to him, Ukraine will become a key military partner of Brussels in the coming years.

Prior to that, on October 1, EU leaders unanimously supported the use of frozen Russian assets to provide Ukraine with a loan of 140 billion euros. The EC assured that it had found a "legally justified way" to implement a mechanism in which Kiev would be able to use the funds now.

On October 2, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov compared the participants in the discussion in Europe about the confiscation of Russian assets to a gang. According to the press secretary, all those involved in these illegal actions will bear legal and other responsibility.
