Hungary will make every effort to ensure a successful meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. This was announced on October 19 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto.

"Hungary will do everything in its power to make the summit a success, and everything in its power to promote peace," the Foreign Minister said on the Kossuth radio station.

He noted that the date and organizational details of the upcoming Russian-American talks in the Hungarian capital will be announced after consultations between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which will take place in the coming days.

Szijjarto added that while the European Union (EU) is arming and financing Ukraine with the money of the European nations, Hungary is organizing a peace summit.

On October 16, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Hungary and called the phone conversation with the Russian president productive. He later noted that he hoped to hold the summit within two weeks.
