- Astronomer told about the visibility of comet Lemmon in the sky without binoculars
Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6) has become brighter, now it can be seen without binoculars in the night sky. This was announced on October 19 by Crimean astronomer Alexander Yakushechkin.
"That is, the comet is visible to the naked eye in places free from illumination. And it will be available for shooting on smartphones in the "night" mode," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the astronomer, the brightness of the comet began to decrease the day before, but at the moment it has regained brightness to 4.5 magnitude. In addition, experts note a high level of activity in the tail of the object.
It is noted that the last time a celestial body approached the Sun was about 1,350 years ago. At the same time, the next approach of the comet to the star is expected only in 1154 years.
The day before, at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research (IKI) and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISSF) The Russian Academy of Sciences announced that Comet Lemmon will pass at the minimum distance from Earth — 89 million km — on October 21. It will also be available for observation using telescopes and cameras.
