- A Russian sniper spoke about the importance of destroying the UAVs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of its
The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are increasingly using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in combat conditions. On October 19, a sniper from the Akhmat brigade with the call sign Kot, in an interview with Izvestia, explained why drones ousted the AFU militants from the list of primary targets.
"Before the advent of drones, the enemy was alive — it was the same sniper, an infantryman. The most important targets are machine gunners, grenade launchers, and commanders. Nowadays, a sniper has become, let's say, a "gunner", shooting down drones," the sniper explained.
According to him, the main task of a sniper in modern combat operations is to destroy drones, as this deprives Ukrainian servicemen of the opportunity to build logistics, scout the situation or strike with artillery and heavy equipment.
Most often, snipers destroy heavy Ukrainian drones of the Baba Yaga type.
"Baba Yaga" arrives at a given point, scatters mines in the form of PFM Petal, in the form of "lighters", in the form of a walkie-talkie — small, like cans. This mine is aimed at injuring a person," said a sniper with the call sign Kot.
The sniper himself also suffered from such a drone — a fragment hit him in the spine. But after treatment, he returned to the special military operation zone.
According to the Russian military, in six months his unit destroyed about 40 Baba Yaga-type drones, and the military with the call sign Kot destroyed four such UAVs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the last task.
The military noted that small arms, most often an assault rifle, are used to destroy targets. The Russian fighter shared the story of his weapon.
"My friend died, <...> Azeron call sign <...> For some reason I felt that it was necessary to pick up the machine gun, not just hand it over so that it would go to the warehouse, but to stay and work, do the job. And so, in memory of Brother Azeron, I carry this machine gun," said the sniper.
Earlier, on October 15, retired colonel Anatoly Matviychuk, a military expert, told how the Russian military carried out an offensive in the Zaporizhia region and struck using the bottom of a dried-up river and waterways. He noted that as a result of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP by the Ukrainian army, the water level in the Dnieper has dropped and the river can now be practically forded. The expert stressed that this facilitates the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, as there is no need for submarines and bridges, and logistics in this area becomes easier for both infantry and equipment, which may require only minimal engineering structures.
