- A shortage of drone operators has been identified in Ukraine due to the unsuccessful reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
In Ukraine, there is a serious imbalance between the number of drones produced and the number of trained operators, Russian law enforcement agencies reported on October 18. According to sources, the problem was the result of an ineffective corps reform carried out by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Alexander Syrsky, and the loss of operators in the combat zone.
"Syrsky's corps reform did not have the desired effect. In fact, the corps are not single organisms, but a collection of brigades that operate separately. In addition, the number of Ukrainian UAV specialists is rapidly decreasing against the background of the effective work of the Russian Rubicon unmanned systems center," the source said.
He clarified that the Ukrainian Armed Forces lose about 500 drone operators every month, but only about 300 are trained, which leads to an increasing shortage of specialists. At the same time, according to him, the Ukrainian command is trying to hide the problem — "on paper" the number of UAV units is increasing, although in fact only the unification of small units is taking place.
"This has led to an imbalance in Ukraine between the number of drones produced and the number of operators. Day after day, we see how Russian FPV drones destroy courier drones and robotic trolleys of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while many Ukrainian soldiers do not receive timely evacuation," the source added.
He also noted that Ukrainian troops are heavily dependent on unmanned systems for supply and evacuation, however, the growing losses among operators jeopardize this logistical scheme.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian troops had hit the drone operator training center, the AFU air defense radar station, as well as enterprises of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex. According to the ministry, the strikes were carried out by tactical aviation, rocket forces and artillery on 156 enemy temporary deployment areas.
