- The number of Americans renouncing citizenship due to politics has increased in the United States.
More and more Americans are renouncing their citizenship for political reasons. This was reported on October 18 by The Washington Post (WP).
"Every year, from 5,000 to 6,000 Americans living abroad lose their U.S. citizenship," the publication says.
According to immigration lawyers, renunciation of United States citizenship is most often related to tax and logistical issues. However, according to experts, politics has recently played an "increasingly important role," and Americans who renounce their citizenship have expressed "dissatisfaction with the country's policies and course."
On September 16, a survey conducted by Ipsos and Reuters was published, according to which the majority of US residents believe that there has been a crisis in American society and people in general have become less tolerant of the opinions of others. According to the data obtained, 71% of respondents agreed with the statement that "American society is broken," another 79% believe that over the past 20 years, residents of the country have become less tolerant of points of view that differ from their own.
