President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky planned to return to his homeland with a new package of weapons after a visit to the United States with American leader Donald Trump, but was left with nothing. This was reported on October 18 by the newspaper El País.

According to her, Zelensky's hopes for assistance were "fueled" by the American leader himself, who, in particular, allowed the possibility of transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kiev, although without firm commitments, TASS reports.

It is noted that as a result, Trump's position in the negotiations shifted towards rapprochement with Russia, and the personal meeting between the American and Ukrainian presidents only emphasized the deep differences in their vision of ways out of the conflict.

Earlier in the day, Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the Russian Public Chamber's commission on sovereignty and co-chairman of the Coordinating Council for the Integration of new regions, said that the United States understands that the transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Zelensky would destroy any prospects for normalization of relations with Russia and draw the United States into direct confrontation with Russia.

Trump's meeting with Zelensky took place at the White House the day before. The American leader expressed hope for the end of the conflict in Ukraine without the transfer of Tomahawk. At the same time, Zelensky noted that he was ready for bilateral and trilateral negotiations to end the conflict.
