The number of victims of floods in Mexico has increased to 72 people.
Heavy rains and resulting floods in Mexico have claimed the lives of 72 people, with 48 residents missing. This was reported on October 17 on the government portal for monitoring the consequences of the disaster.
The largest number of victims was registered in the state of Veracruz — 32 people. 21 people died in Hidalgo, 18 in Puebla, and one in Querétaro.
The southern and central regions of the country suffered the most. Search and rescue operations are continuing, hundreds of people remain in evacuation centers.
Earlier, on October 12, 44 deaths were reported as a result of floods. At that time, the federal authorities clarified that 18 people died in Veracruz, 16 in Hidalgo, nine in Puebla and one in Querétaro. Assistance was provided to 139 municipalities: work was carried out to restore destroyed infrastructure, clear flooded areas and ensure safe conditions for evacuated residents.
