The brother of King Charles III of Great Britain, Prince Andrew, renounced the title of Duke of York and all relevant honors, Sky News reported on October 17, citing a statement from the monarch.

This decision was made after new reports surfaced about his ties to American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of having relations with minors.

"During discussions with the King, as well as members of my family and her entire entourage, we came to the conclusion that the ongoing accusations against me are distracting His Majesty and the royal family from their work. With His Majesty's consent, I will no longer use my title and the honors bestowed upon me," Prince Andrew said in a statement.

The member of the royal family noted that for him, in this situation, duty to his family and country comes first. Therefore, he is suspended from participating in the public life of the United Kingdom. At the same time, the title of prince remains with the brother of King Charles III. In addition, this decision will not affect the situation of his daughters, the granddaughters of the Queen, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

The Daily Mail newspaper reported on October 11 that British Prince Andrew had once promised American financier Jeffrey Epstein that they would go through a scandal together over the publication of a photo of the prince with an underage girl in the media. It was noted that he also told Epstein about his concern about the possible consequences of this information for the financier.

On October 3, US Congresswoman Nancy Mays called for the trial of Prince Andrew in the case of Epstein, accused of trafficking minors and sexual exploitation. In her opinion, it is worth focusing on finding the perpetrators and giving the victims and the country the opportunity to heal.

Epstein committed suicide at a correctional center in New York in August 2019. A few months earlier, he had been arrested on charges of organizing sex trafficking and involving minors in prostitution. In January 2024, the first part of the documents was published, containing the names of more than 150 people involved in the financier's case. Among them are former US President Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
