Most Russians will celebrate the New Year in the capital
This year, the number of hotel bookings for the New Year period has increased by 25%. Most tourists will stay in Russia.: 72% of bookings are made at hotels in the country, while only 28% of the service's customers will travel abroad. OneTwoTrip, a travel planning service, analyzed hotel reservations for the night of January 1 and found out where Russians will celebrate the New Year. Izvestia has reviewed the results of the study.
Most travelers will listen to the chimes in Moscow hotels — the capital accounts for 31.1% of bookings across the country. This is followed by St. Petersburg (14.3%) and Sochi (11.2%) by a wide margin. Nizhny Novgorod (4.1%) and Kazan (3.1%) also entered the top 5.
"The average cost of a room on New Year's Eve in the country was 11,500 rubles. Three—star hotels and apartments, guest houses, and other non-star accommodations turned out to be equally popular for New Year's Eve celebrations: 31.1% of bookings were made for each type of accommodation," the analysts said.
Russians choose three-star hotels, where a day will cost 9100 rubles, while they pay an average of 8,250 rubles for apartments. Four—star hotels were also in high demand (share - 26.0%, room rate — 14,800 rubles). The remaining orders were distributed among hotels with five stars (8.2%; 24,700 rubles per night), two stars (2.6%; 6,700 rubles) and one star (1.0%; 6,000 rubles).
Thailand tops the foreign list of the most popular locations with a share of 31.5%. Almost three times fewer Russian tourists will celebrate the New Year in Italy (11.0%), followed by Turkey (9.6%), the UAE (8.2%) and Georgia (6.8%).
A room in other countries on New Year's Eve can be booked for an average of 21,000 rubles. The majority of travelers chose four-star hotels for the celebration (the share is 27.4%, here travelers choose hotels that cost 16,300 rubles). Three-star hotels are slightly less in demand (24.7%; 14,000 rubles), and 21.9% of bookings are for five-star hotels (a night there will cost 48,500 rubles).
Apartments, guest houses, hostels and other non—star accommodations are also quite popular: their share was 20.5%, and the cost of living there was 10,400 rubles. The remaining bookings were divided between two stars (4.1%; 8,300 rubles per night) and one star (1.4%; 4,350 rubles).
On October 9, it was reported that Russians began actively buying tours for the New Year holidays. According to the Travelvisor aggregator, the average cost of a tour for the last days of December and the beginning of January is 275 thousand rubles for nine nights for two. This is almost 1.5 times more expensive than the average annual cost of tours, which is 182 thousand rubles.
