The doctor named ways to clean the liver after giving up alcohol
With regular alcohol consumption, the load on the liver increases many times, and serious disorders can develop over time. However, if the liver is not too badly affected, it is possible to restore its health. Valeria Lomova, a gastroenterologist at SM Clinic, told Izvestia on October 18 how to do this.
According to the expert, alcohol abuse can lead to diseases such as fatty hepatosis, cirrhosis, alcoholic cardiomyopathy and even oncological processes, including liver cancer.
"In the early stages, with steatosis, normal liver function can be restored fairly quickly — if you strictly follow the doctor's recommendations," Lomova said.
The first and most important condition for recovery is complete abstinence from alcohol. If at the same time a person is overweight, it is necessary to reduce it and review the diet.
If the patient has already consulted a doctor at the stage of fibrosis formation, professional supervision is required. The doctor will make the necessary diagnosis and select an individual treatment. Even with serious changes, abstaining from alcohol, following a diet and properly prescribed therapy can significantly improve the condition of the liver.
A balanced diet is of great importance. The daily caloric content, according to the expert, should be at least 2 thousand kcal, and the amount of protein should be about 1-1.5 g per kilogram of body weight. At the same time, it is necessary to exclude fatty, spicy and fried foods from the menu, to give up canned food, sausages and excess salt. The diet should be dominated by vegetables, herbs, berries, low-fat fish and meat.
"To speed up the cleansing of the liver from toxins, it is necessary to follow a proper drinking regime. Drinking enough clean water at room temperature helps the body to remove harmful substances naturally," Lomova added.
According to the gastroenterologist, there are many medications available today to support and repair the liver, but their appointment should only take place after consultation with a specialist.
Another important factor that is often underestimated is physical activity. Regular workouts, even moderate ones, help to saturate organs with oxygen, improve metabolism and accelerate tissue regeneration processes.
"A healthy lifestyle, giving up bad habits, rational nutrition and exercise are the main conditions under which the liver has every chance of fully recovering," concluded Lomova.
On September 11, Ekaterina Dmitrenko, a doctor, urged people not to abuse caffeine. According to her, caffeine blocks adenosine, a substance that causes drowsiness. She clarified that this increases the feeling of alertness and concentration, but over time, coffee lovers develop tolerance — they need more drink to get the same effect.
