The political scientist predicted the failure of a possible US operation in Venezuela
Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, expressed doubt in an interview about the success of the US operation in Venezuela aimed at destabilizing the situation and overthrowing President Nicolas Maduro.
In conversation with "Lenta.Ru "on Thursday, October 17, he noted that the United States is unlikely to be able to achieve results on the issue of a change of power in Venezuela, even despite the permission of American leader Donald Trump to conduct covert operations in the country.
"All attempts by the American special services to overthrow the government in Venezuela over the past decades have ended in failure. <...> Now there is another attempt, another one, but, frankly, there are still doubts that the United States will succeed," Dudakov said.
He also added that leaks in the American press indicate the dissatisfaction of some employees of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) with Trump's actions in Venezuela.
According to the political scientist, the United States is unlikely to be able to organize a serious blockade of Venezuela. In return, they will increase pressure, hoping to split the country's elite and achieve Maduro's resignation, but even here the American authorities have not yet been able to succeed.
The day before, Maduro condemned the campaign of psychological, political, diplomatic and military aggression against Venezuela and called for avoiding the outbreak of hostilities. He also demanded that Washington stop xenophobic statements according to which all Venezuelans are members of drug cartels.
Prior to that, on October 16, Trump allowed air strikes on the territory of Venezuela as part of the fight against drug trafficking. According to Vedomosti, he also noted that after the destruction of boats allegedly linked to drug cartels off the coast of Venezuela, such vessels no longer appeared for several days.
The New York Times reported on October 15 that the Trump administration could have authorized the CIA to conduct "deadly operations" in Venezuela and the Caribbean as part of a pressure campaign on President Nicolas Maduro. The decision coincided with the build-up of the American military presence in the region, including about 10,000 troops, ships and a submarine.
