- The Federation Council explained Hungary's choice for a meeting between Putin and Trump
Hungary has been chosen for the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American Leader Donald Trump, as it suits both countries. This opinion was shared on October 17 by Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.
"She was chosen (Hungary. — Ed.) was successful. <...> It suits both countries — Russia and the USA. This is the main reason why such a decision was made," Karasin said in an interview with Lenta.ru .
He noted that a meeting at the level of heads of foreign ministries would not necessarily take place in Budapest.
On October 16, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Hungary and called the phone conversation with the Russian president productive. He later stated that he hoped to hold the summit within two weeks.
