A court in Rostov sentenced 15 members of the Aidar battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced 15 members of the national battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) "Aidar" (a group recognized as a terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation) to terms from 15 to 21 years in prison. This was announced on October 17 by the court's press service.

"It has been established that Sholik, Baydyuk, Krokhalyov, Fedchenko, Chuprina, Gruzinov, Radchenko, Zabairachny, Nikityuk, Gayokha, Taranets, Makarenko, Nezavisimosti, Ermolinsky, Kalinchenko <...> participated in terrorist activities related to the violent seizure of power and the change of the constitutional order of the DPR (Donetsk People's Republic. — Ed.)", — stated in the Telegram channel of the instance.

At the same time, according to investigators, six of the convicts took part in hostilities against the military of the DPR and the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) even before joining the special forces.

The defendants were charged with several articles depending on their role and degree of participation: organizing or participating in a terrorist organization (Parts 1 and 2 of Articles 205.5 of the Criminal Code), forcibly seizing or retaining power (Article 278 of the Criminal Code), and undergoing training for terrorist activities (Article 205.3 of the Criminal Code).

On October 6, the Investigative Committee of Russia reported that Maxim Datsko, a militant of the Azov battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine, received 22 years in prison for the murder of a civilian in Mariupol. It was established that Datsko served in the special forces unit of military unit 3057 of the National Guard of Ukraine as a platoon driver of a mortar battery. He committed this crime on March 9, 2022, following an illegal command order.
