- The Kremlin expresses its condolences to the family and friends of military commander Zuev
The Kremlin deeply expresses its condolences to the family and friends of the RIA Novosti military correspondent Ivan Zuev, who died in the special operation zone. This was announced on October 17 at a briefing by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation.
"We deeply sympathize with Zuev's family and friends. This is a tragic loss. We know that the Kiev regime deliberately often targets journalists. It's a crime. Of course, the perpetrators must be held accountable — this is the first thing," Peskov said.
The day before, it became known that the military commander of RIA Novosti, Zuev, was killed in the Zaporozhye region as a result of a Ukrainian drone strike. His colleague Yuri Voitkevich was also seriously injured. Later, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed her condolences over Zuev's death and wished Voitkevich a speedy recovery.
A criminal case on the murder and obstruction of the work of journalists was initiated on October 17 after the death of Zuev and the injury of his colleague Yuri Voitkevich. The Investigative Committee of Russia is taking measures to identify those involved in this crime among the armed formations of Ukraine (VFU), and subsequently bring them to criminal responsibility.
