- The political scientist called the issue of Tomahawk supplies to Kiev an attempt to provoke a reaction from the Russian Federation.
The issue of Tomahawk supplies to Ukraine is just a tool to provoke a reaction from Russia and try to put pressure on it. This opinion was expressed by political analyst Alexander Asafov in an interview with Izvestia on October 17.
According to him, the discussion of the supply of long-range weapons to Ukraine is used primarily to force Russia to respond to these threats.
"Of course, this is a rhetorical tool. Although, of course, it can be implemented with some supplies, but at least for now it is clear that [US President Donald] Trump uses this tool to put pressure on Russia, and, of course, to put the most serious pressure on [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky, because he [Zelensky] needs such tools," Asafov said.
According to the expert, arms supplies are one of the key elements in the political game, and Trump is actively using them to achieve his goals. The US president most likely sees the need for such instruments of pressure, as they play an important role in the diplomatic struggle.
On October 17, Bloomberg reported that US President Donald Trump had changed his rhetoric after a conversation with Putin, moving to a more constructive dialogue, which, according to analysts, could be detrimental to Kiev's interests. According to the agency, this indicates that Trump is ready to give diplomacy another chance before resorting to more decisive action against Moscow, although his attempts have not yet brought tangible results.
