Hungary will provide security to Russian President Vladimir Putin for successful talks with American leader Donald Trump in Budapest. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced this at a press conference on October 17.

"We are ready to provide all conditions for the presidents of the United States and Russia to hold talks in a safe and calm environment," he said.

He also stressed that Hungary would grant the Russian president unhindered entry into the country.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced after talks with Putin on October 17 that preparations for the U.S.-Russian summit in Hungary were underway at full capacity.

Szijjarto announced a telephone conversation with Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov in preparation for the Russian-American summit. Szijjarto later said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio would also hold a telephone conversation on Friday evening, October 17. Presumably, they will arrange a meeting in Hungary.

On October 16, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Hungary and called the phone conversation with the Russian president productive. He later stated that he hoped to hold the summit within two weeks.
