Construction of a geothermal power plant will begin in Kamchatka. The corresponding agreement was signed by RusHydro, Zarubezhneft and the government of the region as part of the business program of the VIII International Forum "Russian Energy Week". The capacity of the new Mutnovskaya GEOES2 power plant will be 66.5 MW.

Within the framework of the agreement, efforts and competencies will be combined to implement promising geothermal projects. We are talking about the exploration, development of deposits and the creation of conditions for the construction and commissioning of a new power plant.

The aim of the project is to increase the energy supply of the Kamchatka Territory. The plant plans to use an advanced low-potential heat recovery system based on the organic Rankine cycle. The installed capacity utilization rate is expected to exceed 90%. This is a record figure among renewable energy facilities.

In addition, the efficiency of the energy system should be improved by reducing the use of expensive imported fuel, and the environmental burden will decrease.

The companies Kamchatskenergo and ZN Geotherm have created a joint venture "Geothermal Energy" to carry out exploration and design and survey work, IA EAOmedia writes.

The regional government will provide comprehensive support to the project, including organizing and holding a competition for renewable energy generation projects. In addition, the authorities will help to arrange documents for participation in government programs, receiving subsidies, benefits and the status of a resident of the Kamchatka territory of advanced development, IA writes.

The main stage of construction of Mutnovskaya GEOHPP-2 will begin after the selection of an investor following the successful completion of the first stage of work. The new power plant is expected to become a flagship for the development of geothermal energy in Russia.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian Navy has deployed the first Drone Control Center. It was created in Kamchatka, the Russian Defense Ministry told Izvestia. The military department also plans to build special sites on the peninsula where drones with a long range could be based. Drones "Pacer" and "Outpost" will be responsible for monitoring Arctic latitudes.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
