The route of the Russian delegation to Budapest, where the meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, may take place, may lie through relatively neutral countries. This opinion was expressed by political scientist Ivan Mezyuho in a conversation with Izvestia on October 17.

"The Russian president may have to fly through relatively neutral countries, across the sea, and eventually reach Hungary through Serbia. In my opinion, this is the most likely option," he said.

According to the expert, the countries of the European Union (EU) will hinder the organization of the Russian-American summit. Mezyuho stressed that, in his opinion, in the near future, the leading EU countries and the UK will do everything possible to disrupt the negotiations.

"Therefore, perhaps we should even expect the organization of some kind of regular provocations in the style of allegedly flying Russian drones over the airspace of the European Union," he concluded.

John Varoli, an American political scientist and former journalist for The New York Times (NYT), told Izvestia earlier that day that Trump might take Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth with him to a meeting with the Russian leader.

On October 16, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Hungary. The telephone conversation between the leaders took place at the initiative of the Russian leader, who began the conversation by congratulating Trump on his success in normalizing the situation in the Gaza Strip. Trump mentioned Budapest as a possible summit location, and Putin supported this choice, confirming the agreement to hold the meeting.

The Telegraph newspaper wrote on October 17 that European experts believe that this summit will be a painful blow to the European Union (EU), but a huge success for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
