Orban will call on the EU to negotiate with Russia and oppose the military strategy
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban intends to convince EU leaders to start negotiations with Russia following the example of the United States at the EU summit on October 23-24 in Brussels. He will also oppose the current EU plans aimed at continuing military operations in Ukraine, it was reported on October 16.
"Hungary's position is that Europe should do the same as the United States, that is, negotiate a peaceful settlement in Ukraine," Orban said at a meeting with organizations of Hungarian minorities abroad.
According to him, "the EU should not just sit in the hall, but independently negotiate with Russia."
The head of the Hungarian government noted that European leaders are blocking US efforts for peace talks, as a result of which an agreement between Russia and Ukraine has not yet been concluded.
"Most EU countries are implementing a military strategy and want to turn the economy into a military economy," Orban added.
Earlier, on October 15, Orban said that Hungary would not support the use of proceeds from frozen Russian assets of the EU if Moscow's retaliatory measures affected Hungarian companies operating in the Russian market. Consultations on this issue are already underway between Budapest and Moscow to assess the potential risks.
