During the talks on Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Burita discussed the situation in North Africa and the Sahara-Sahel region. This was announced on October 16 by the press service of the department.
His Moroccan counterpart's visit to Moscow is connected with his participation in the eighth meeting of the intergovernmental joint Russian-Moroccan commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical cooperation, where he serves as co-chairman.
"We exchanged views on the dynamics of the situation in North Africa and in the Sahara-Sahel region," the Telegram channel said in a statement.
The parties confirmed their mutual interest in strengthening foreign policy coordination. This cooperation is aimed at resolving the crises in the Middle East and Africa through political and diplomatic methods based on the norms of international law with the central role of the United Nations.
During the negotiations, a memorandum of understanding was signed on the establishment of the Russian-Moroccan inter-ministerial working committee. The document is intended to promote the deepening of the strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Morocco.
On the same day, Nasser Burita said that Morocco considers Russia as a close partner and sees it as an important player on the world stage, as well as an honest negotiator. He stated this at the talks with Lavrov. During the meeting with his Russian counterpart, Burita also conveyed greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin from King Mohammed VI of the country.
