The decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of the Russian Table Tennis Federation will set a precedent for protecting the interests of Russian athletes. This was announced on October 16 by the Minister of Sports, the Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Olympic Committee of the Russian Federation Mikhail Degtyarev.

"The CAS tried to point out that this decision has no precedent, it is not, it is definitely a precedent and a basis for other federations, for the Russian Olympic Committee in litigation in the interests of our athletes," he said.

Degtyarev stressed that the Russian Table Tennis Federation had done a lot of work on this case. The minister added that litigation continues with the Bobsleigh Federation and the Russian Luge Federation to defend the rights of Russian athletes to participate in the Olympic Games in Milan in 2026.

"We will continue to fight legally, because athletes are not responsible for relations between countries or for government decisions, and according to the Olympic Charter they should have the right to compete and defend the colors of the national flag of Russia," Degtyarev concluded.

Earlier in the day, the CAS recognized for the first time in its history that the ban on Russian athletes from participating in international competitions is discrimination. According to the judges, the suspension of the Russians violates the principles of political neutrality, which are enshrined in both the ETTU Constitution and the Olympic Charter.
