The European Commission (EC) expects to expropriate Russia's sovereign assets frozen in the West by the end of 2025. This was announced on October 16 by European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius, presenting in Brussels the roadmap for improving the security of the European Union (EU) by 2030, he was quoted by the press service of the EC.

"Today is delivery day. Our roadmap will help Europe achieve a level of defense readiness by 2030," the European Commissioner said, as quoted by the EC press service.

He noted that this money will be used for military assistance to Kiev. According to him, Ukraine will become a key military partner of Brussels in the coming years.

Earlier, on October 15, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Budapest would not support EU plans to use proceeds from frozen Russian assets if retaliatory measures from Russia affected Hungarian companies operating in the Russian market. According to him, an open discussion of these issues with the Russian side is already underway so that the Hungarian government can make an informed decision, taking into account all possible consequences.
