In the UK, Johnson & Johnson was sued for asbestos powder
About 3,000 UK residents have sued the American pharmaceutical corporation Johnson & Johnson (J&J), accusing it of selling talc-based powder containing asbestos. This was reported on October 16 by The Guardian newspaper.
"About 3,000 people claim that they or a family member developed ovarian cancer or mesothelioma due to the use of Johnson's Baby Powder, and are seeking damages in the High Court in London," the publication says.
The lawyers said that J&J and its subsidiaries Johnson & Johnson Management and Kenvue UK should take responsibility for concealing the use of asbestos-containing talc in their products. At the same time, the corporation denies these accusations, the newspaper notes.
Earlier, on October 8, a court in the United States ordered J&J to pay $966 million in compensation to the family of 88-year-old pensioner Mae Moore from California, who died after using talc-based baby powder. At the same time, Johnson & Johnson Vice President Eric Haas expressed disagreement with the court's decision and announced his intention to appeal it to the Court of Appeal.
