The Indian Foreign Ministry did not confirm Trump's phone conversation with Modi.
The Indian Foreign Ministry has not confirmed information that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a conversation with US President Donald Trump the day before. This was reported by Bloomberg on October 16.
"As for the question of whether there was a conversation or a phone call between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump, I am not aware of any conversation between the two leaders yesterday," Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said.
The minister added that the interests of consumers remain the main priority in shaping the policy of energy imports to India.
Earlier in the day, Trump announced that the Indian Prime Minister had allegedly promised him to stop buying Russian oil. The American leader called this an important step and noted that his goal now is to convince China to do the same. According to the US president, after the end of the conflict in Ukraine, India may start buying Russian energy resources again.
