The European Union (EU) plans to spend €6.8 trillion on defense over the next 10 years. This was announced by European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius at a briefing on October 16.

"Over the next 10 years, we will spend €6.8 trillion on defense, on weapons, if we take some NATO standard, it will amount to about 40-50%, that is, €3.5 trillion," he said.

Earlier that day, the Russian Embassy in Belgium told Izvestia that the meeting of NATO defense ministers on October 15 in Brussels confirmed that the bloc was moving towards confrontation and escalation. They pointed out that, despite all the enormous costs to the economy and the well-being of the population, approved at the Hague summit of the bloc, exorbitant levels of defense spending are translated into multibillion-dollar military contracts aimed at the militarization of Europe.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
