Public activists have proposed to legislate responsibility for inducing pregnant women to have an abortion. Natalia Moskvitina, founder and CEO of the Women for Life Foundation and a member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia on October 16 that the draft amendments were discussed at public hearings yesterday.

"At the moment, 25 regions have adopted a regional law that protects women from being induced to have an abortion. Yesterday, 50 experts gathered in the public chamber <...> to discuss the issues and the need for such a law," she said.

According to Moskvitina, it was unanimously decided to propose a regional law as a draft federal law.

According to the newspaper Vedomosti, it is proposed to legislate a range of fines for inducing abortions from 50,000 to 800,000 rubles. Public activists propose amendments to the law on the basics of health protection.

On August 7, the Governor of the Vologda Region, Georgy Filimonov, announced that the residents of the region had not had a single abortion in July. According to the governor, the task of reducing the number of abortions in the region is being solved jointly with the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), public organizations, doctors and social services.
