- The United States announced Japan's intention to allegedly stop importing Russian energy resources
During the meeting between U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato, it was noted that Japan allegedly intends to stop importing Russian energy resources. On October 15, Bessent wrote about this on the social network X.
"Today I met with Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato <...> [We] discussed important issues related to economic relations between the United States and Japan, and the administration's expectations that Japan will stop importing Russian energy resources," the publication says.
It is noted that during the bilateral meeting, the ministers discussed plans to mobilize Japan's strategic investments in the United States.
Earlier, on September 12, the Ministry of Economy and Justice of Japan announced that the country was imposing sanctions against 52 organizations and 10 individuals from Russia, as well as against three organizations from Belarus "in connection with the situation in Ukraine." The document notes that restrictions on payments and capital transactions are provided for these organizations. Special permission from the Japanese Foreign Ministry will be required for their implementation.
