Arson suspect in Los Angeles faces new charges
In the United States, a man accused of deliberately setting fire to a Pacific Palisades has been charged with new charges. As the Los Angeles Times reported on October 15, 29-year-old Jonathan Rinderknecht faces up to 45 years in prison.
According to the US Department of Justice, the federal grand jury added two new counts of arson of property used in interstate commerce and arson of timber. The investigation believes that on January 1, Rinderknecht deliberately started a fire in Temescal Canyon, which later became one of the most destructive in the history of Los Angeles.
"The investigation revealed that the fire started in the place where the accused was shortly before the incident. Witness data, camera recordings and a mobile phone were used," the prosecutors said.
If proven guilty, Rinderknecht faces between five and 45 years in prison.
Earlier, on October 8, it was reported that Rinderknecht was arrested on suspicion of arson, which caused the largest fire in the history of Los Angeles. Among the evidence, the prosecution pointed to an image of a burning city created by him using a neural network. The first hearing in the case was held in the U.S. District Court in Orlando.
