The Pentagon put forward a number of conditions for the publications to continue their cooperation, which they refused, which led to the confiscation of passes from journalists. This was reported by The Washington Post (WP) on October 15.

"Today, we join almost all other news organizations in refusing to agree to the Pentagon's new demands, which limit the ability of journalists to inform the country and the world about important national security issues," the newspaper quoted the Fox News channel as saying.

The Pentagon has introduced new rules for cooperation with the media, in particular, journalists have been banned from requesting and restricting access to information that the ministry does not officially provide, and they have also lost the right to publish information without prior approval by the military.

As a result, passes were withdrawn from journalists who refused to subscribe to the new set of rules. They include reporters from ABC, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Reuters, Bloomberg News, along with a number of defense-related industry publications.

"This is an unprecedented attack on the public's right to know and the end of one of the most professional relationships with the press in Washington," correspondent Tara Kopp described these actions in her post on the social network X.

In the same social network, Reuters reporter Phil Stewart noted that at the moment there is no permanent press corps left in the Pentagon.

Earlier, on October 11, US President Donald Trump said that against the background of the shutdown (government shutdown), he instructed the head of the Pentagon to direct all available funds to salaries for military personnel. According to him, because of the Democrats and Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer, the army risks being left without payments.

On the same day, Trump announced the beginning of massive cuts in the US government. He clarified that the number of employees who will be subject to cuts will be announced within a few days.
