Members of the European Parliament (EP) have proposed placing personal responsibility on the heads of large technology companies for non-compliance with child protection rules on the Internet. This was reported by Politico on October 15.

The initiative concerns platforms with more than 45 million users in the EU, including Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) and TikTok.

"If companies are found to have violated the rules, their managers may be held personally responsible for serious and persistent violations of the Digital Services Act concerning minors," said Danish socialist Kristel Schaldemose, who led the report.

The draft document also states that companies are required to reduce the risks associated with misinformation, illegal content and exposure to children. Fines of up to 6% of the company's annual global revenue are provided for violations.

Earlier, on July 29, Australia announced the inclusion of the YouTube video platform in the list of sites subject to bans on social media for teenagers. The restrictions will come into force in December, after a study showed that 37% of the minors surveyed had encountered malicious content on the platform.
