Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to hold events in 2026 to mark the 90th anniversary of former Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov. The relevant decree was posted on the official Internet portal of legal information on October 15.

"In connection with the 90th anniversary of Yuri Luzhkov's birth in 2026, I decide to hold events in 2026 dedicated to the celebration of the 90th anniversary of Yuri Luzhkov's birth," the text of the document says.

The Government of the Russian Federation was also instructed to form and approve the composition of the organizing committee within six months, as well as to ensure the development and approval of a plan for the main events in preparation for the celebration.

Earlier, on September 21, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin named the Sadovniki Park on Andropov Avenue in the capital after Luzhkov. The authorities made this decision after the appeal of the non-profit organization "Yuri Luzhkov Foundation", the initiators of which will be engaged in part of the work on the improvement of the park.

In April 2021, an initiative group of State Duma deputies sent Sobyanin a petition to assign one of the capital's streets or squares named after Luzhkov.

On December 10, 2020, a memorial plaque was installed in Moscow on the house where Luzhkov lived. She appeared at the address: 3 Tverskaya-Yamskaya, 48.

Luzhkov served as mayor of Moscow from 1992 to 2010. He died on December 10, 2019 from complications after heart surgery.
