The chemist told about the danger of wet wipes for children's skin
Andrey Dorokhov, Associate Professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry named after A.N. Reformatsky RTU MIREA, warned about the danger of wet wipes for children's skin.
In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Wednesday, October 15, he noted that wet wipes can be harmful to sensitive children's skin due to the preservatives they contain, which are necessary to preserve the product.
Dorokhov explained that sealed packaging creates a favorable environment for microbes, so manufacturers add preservatives, most often parabens and phenoxyethanol. These substances can penetrate the skin and cause irritation or allergies.
He stressed that the concentration of such components is strictly regulated, but you need to be especially careful with newborns. As an alternative, products labeled paraben-free and mild preservatives are suitable, although they can provoke an individual reaction, writes RT.
The specialist advised to carefully study the composition, avoid scented napkins and do not replace them with a full wash with water.
In September, pediatrician Olga Manvelyan shared tips for improving children's health in the fall. She stressed the importance of washing hands with soap, antiseptic treatment, using wet wipes and avoiding unnecessary touching of the face, notes 360.ru .
Earlier, Dorokhov warned that substances that are part of the impregnation of wet wipes, with frequent skin contact, can harm humans. He explained that methylisothiazolinone can cause allergies in children, while phenoxyethanol and parabens can cause skin problems and hormonal disruptions.
Before that, dermatologist Natalia Zhovtan revealed a way to combat the smell of sweat using alcohol wipes. According to her, the use of alcohol-based antiseptics can have a positive effect by neutralizing pathogenic microorganisms and narrowing the excretory ducts of sweat glands.
