Oncologist, Professor Alexander Seryakov listed the main risk factors for breast cancer.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, October 15, the specialist noted that every eighth woman faces breast cancer during her lifetime, and the risk factors are not limited to heredity. According to him, in addition to genetics, lifestyle, smoking, alcohol consumption, excess weight and ecology play an important role.
The expert emphasized that a healthy lifestyle is an effective way of prevention. Normal weight, physical activity, and a balanced diet help reduce the risk. He attached particular importance to the diet, noting that oncologists and cardiologists often recommend a Mediterranean diet with an emphasis on vegetables and fruits.
He also drew attention to the importance of hormonal control. According to him, taking hormonal contraceptives and replacement therapy during menopause is possible only after consulting with a gynecologist, since these drugs can increase the risk of developing hormone-dependent tumors.
The oncologist added that women with a family history of breast cancer need to undergo genetic testing, primarily for the most common mutations.
On October 15, PhD Dmitry Bulanov, in an interview with Izvestia, said that breast cancer remains the most common malignant tumor in women, and the prognosis of treatment directly depends on early detection.
