Car production in Russia decreased by 12%
In the first nine months of 2025, Russian car factories produced 695,000 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses. This is 12% less than in January-September last year, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said in his Telegram channel.
In the passenger car segment, the decrease was only 2% (to 567.9 thousand units), production remained at the level of last year due to the assembly of Chinese models in the country and the opening of new production facilities, the analyst said. At the same time, the car market decreased by 22.4% during this period.
"The situation is more complicated in the commercial vehicle segment. The market shrank by more than half, which led to a significant decrease in imports and a reduction in production," said Tselikov.
Thus, in the segment of light commercial vehicles (LCVs), production decreased by 33%, to 74.2 thousand units. The output of medium—tonnage trucks decreased by 60% (to 14.3 thousand units), and heavy trucks - by 38% (to 30.7 thousand units). Bus production lost 30% of last year's volume (8 thousand units).
The expert noted that the second half of the year gives hope for a gradual recovery of the market and production volumes in the passenger segment, however, the "market bottom" has not yet been passed in the segment of commercial vehicles.
Yesterday it became known that the Belarusian crossover Belgee X50, which is produced at the plant near Minsk based on the Geely model, became the best-selling new car in Moscow in 2025. Geely Monjaro, which was the leader in the first half of the year, was the second.
