- The media learned about the plans of the head of Syria to demand the extradition of Assad at the talks in Moscow
Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa will officially demand the extradition of former Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad for trial on charges of alleged crimes at talks in Moscow. This was reported on October 15 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.
"Al-Sharaa will officially appeal to Moscow with a request to extradite Assad for trial on charges of crimes against Syria," the article says.
According to the agency, al-Sharaa intends to discuss at a meeting with the Russian authorities the issue of further deployment of Russian military bases in Tartus and Khmeimim. It is also expected that al-Sharaa hopes to achieve economic concessions, including the resumption of wheat supplies on favorable terms.
Al-Sharaa's planned visit to Moscow became known a day earlier. On September 12, the head of the republic said that Syria seeks to maintain and preserve close historical ties with Russia. He also noted that Syria has been able to build good relations with the United States and Western countries, as well as maintain calm relations with Russia and establish relations with the entire region.
