Ways to overcome the main challenges facing the global energy sector became the main topic of the opening session of the Eighth International Forum "Russian Energy Week" (REN), which began its work in Moscow on October 15. The event is supported by the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Energy of Russia and the Government of Moscow. The organizer is the Roscongress Foundation.

"Energy ensures economic development and creates conditions for humanity to continue improving the quality of life," said Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and head of the Forum's organizing committee. According to him, energy consumption in the world is growing, as is the demand for energy resources in almost all areas, including hydrocarbons and renewable energy sources. "And, importantly, the demand for electricity is growing faster," the Deputy Prime Minister added.

The discussion of the REN-2025 participants focused on providing the domestic market with energy resources and realizing export potential, which are the key priorities of the Energy Strategy until 2050, approved by the Government of the Russian Federation. The Forum is aimed at demonstrating the prospects of the Russian fuel and energy complex and realizing the potential of international cooperation in the energy sector. A Russia-OPEC energy dialogue is planned at the REN–2025 site. Special attention will be paid to cooperation between Russia and Africa in the energy sector. The participants will also discuss ways to create a fair energy environment for the SCO and ASEAN countries. In total, the program includes about 60 business events covering such areas as international cooperation, sustainable development issues, technology as a key driver of energy development, as well as the development strategy of the Russian fuel and energy complex.

Also on October 15, a solemn ceremony of awarding the Global Energy International Award for outstanding research and scientific and technical developments contributing to improving the efficiency and environmental safety of energy sources on Earth in the interests of all mankind will take place, which will be held for the first time in the Zaryadye Concert Hall.

The Forum's events are taking place at two venues: the Manege Central Exhibition Hall, where the main events of the business program will take place, and Gostiny Dvor, where an exhibition of Equipment and Technologies for the Fuel and Energy Complex has opened.
