The negative trends in the European economy are a direct consequence of the abandonment of Russian gas. This was announced on October 15 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak during the Russian Energy Week 2025 (REN).

"As we see, the European economy is actually stagnating today. Those countries that have abandoned Russian gas — we see that they are even in the negative zone," Novak said.

He added that Russian gas supplies to Europe have halved, but Russia occupies about 19% of the European Union (EU) market.

"Previously, Russian gas accounted for about 44% of Europe's energy mix, but today it remains about 19% of total imports. That is, it has halved. Nevertheless, Russian gas supplies are being carried out," Novak concluded.

On October 9, Yevgeny Zlenko, a political scientist and project manager at the Polylog Group, said that Europe's rejection of Russian gas could lead to the deindustrialization of the region. He explained that without Russian gas, the European industry would lose competitiveness, and the population would lose the last remnants of purchasing power.
