- In Germany, they learned about Zelensky's difficulties with financing for Tomahawk purchases
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, on the eve of a meeting with US President Donald Trump, faced the problem of financing purchases of American long-range Tomahawk missiles. This was announced on October 14 by Welt correspondent Christoph Wanner.
"The President of Ukraine is already thinking about how to finance these Tomahawks, because the Americans do not want to pay for them. They want to be paid if they are delivered," Wanner said. His words are quoted by Welt in its You-Tube channel.
Wanner also noted that there is no single strategy among European allies to pay for these missiles, and the true intentions of the US president on this issue remain unclear.
The Financial Times reported the day before that the United States could supply Ukraine with 20 to 50 Tomahawk missiles. As the newspaper notes with reference to the director of the defense program of the Center for a New American Security, Stacy Pettijohn, such a transfer will not radically change the course of the conflict.
On October 12, Trump announced a "good conversation" with Zelensky. He also allowed the opportunity to discuss Tomahawk supplies with Russian leader Vladimir Putin if the conflict in Ukraine is not resolved.
On October 13, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated the possibility of organizing a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump on the transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. According to him, at the moment there are no specific agreements on this topic.
