Bee venom has become a way to relieve phantom pain in patients
The Vishnevsky Central Military Hospital uses bee venom to treat phantom pains in patients who have not been helped by traditional methods. He told the Newspaper about it.Ru" on October 15, said apitherapist, Candidate of Medical Sciences Viktor Gubin.
Bees bite patients in the lumbar and collar zones, as well as in other points corresponding to acupuncture schemes.
"A bee sting is an automatic syringe. After the bite, the sting remains in the bite site and releases venom for another half hour. The dose is selected individually," Gubin explained.
According to him, the treatment starts with one bee and gradually increases to 6-8 stings per session. Bee venom stimulates the body, sometimes raising the temperature and causing intoxication, so a bioassay is performed before the course to exclude allergies.
"About 5% of people may develop anaphylactic shock, so we always monitor the patient," the doctor noted.
With phantom pain, bites are placed directly into the stump and other areas, including the centers of the autonomic nervous system. Gubin admits that the exact mechanism of action of the poison has not been fully studied, but the effect is obvious: amputee patients can refuse strong painkillers with serious side effects.
Earlier, on June 5, experts warned that in case of a bee sting, the sting must be carefully removed with tweezers, treated with antiseptic and a cold compress applied. An allergic reaction can range from redness and itching to anaphylactic shock, which requires immediate medical attention.
